More About CBH

How did CBH get started?

CBH grew out of a friendship between Drs. Busingye and Kolars that dates back to 2009. At that time, Sr/Dr. Busingye was on an exploratory visit to Michigan.  As the  the only full-time Obstetrician/Gynecologist practicing in western Uganda, she was faced with unaccetable levels of complications from pregnancies including birth injuries that result in fistulas.   Looking for partners, she found her way to Dr. Kolars who was directing global health for the University of Michigan Medical School.  Through a series of visits, exchanges, and a growing circle of engagements, a community came together to support the advancement of health and education in the region including the establishment of a  registered non-profit foundation (i.e. CBH).     Our current work is largely focused in western Uganda in partnership with the Religious Institute of the Daughters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus (Banyatereza Sisters). The Sisters manage a number of health care facilities including a nursing and midwifery school as well as schools, orphanges, and vocational training facilities To date, over $1,000,000 has been raised with 100% invested in Uganda activities that advance health, education, and well-being.
