Recently the Ugandan government has required upgraded certification for teachers at all levels. CBH has provided funding for continuing education for all Banyatereza Sisters who are currently working in nursery, primary and secondary levels of education. Although temporarily stalled by the COVID pandemic, the teachers have recently started their new academic programs in order to meet new the new standards.
A view of the newly renovated and enlarged St. Cecilia Nursery and Primary School. The school has enlarged classrooms with flooring, glass windows and ceilings. Additional rooms were added to increase the number of grade levels. An improved water system and new outdoor latrines are available. Additional funding is needed to improve the condition of older classrooms, school supplies and outdoor play equipment. The school serves more than 400 students.
CBH recently provided partial funding for upgrading facilities for the Ava Maria Secondary School Administration building.
The schools are in need of funding to purchase classroom materials and computers. Most classroom materials are purchased within Uganda to meet government standards for education. Tuition is expensive, and many local students unable to afford the fees at mission schools. However, the desire to attend is high due to the quality of these of education provided by the mission schools. Students are admitted regardless of faith or religious affiliation.
