Collaborating for Better Health

Collaborating for Better HealthCollaborating for Better HealthCollaborating for Better Health

Our Mission

Improving health for the underserved through respectful partnerships that strengthen education, training, and the provision of services in low-resource settings.

We partner with educators, care givers, and advocates for the underserved in low-resource settings. Our initiatives directly address healthcare but may also include efforts addressing social determinants of health such as education, nutrition, poverty, clean water, and the environment.

A Philosophy of Collaboration

Our stakeholders in Africa know best their needs as well as the opportunities to improve health.  Our approach is to listen deeply and always allow them to set the agenda.  We're honored to provide financial support and to share the talents that our volunteers have been able to develop in a  high-income country such as the U.S.  We are quite aware of our privilege and the tremendous gifts that result from collaborations in Uganda.

Our Scope of Activities
1.  Financial support of healthcare and education initiatives in low resource areas such as Rwibaale and Fort Portal in Uganda.
2.  Capital support of equipment, supplies, and facilities that advance health and education.
3.  Financial support for local educators and healthcare providers to participate in training and development activities.

Our current work is focused in southwestern Uganda in partnership with the Religious Institute of the Daughters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus (Banyatereza Sisters). The Sisters manage a number of health care facilities including a nursing and midwifery school. Our key partners include local Ugandan government entities including the health ministry as well as local community leaders and community advocates. Recently we have partnered with African Mission Health Care Foundation.

CBH has supported Birth Injury Camps in the Fort Portal region of western Uganda since 2012. Through community outreach, women are recruited for screening and enrolled in regularly scheduled camps to receive free corrective surgery and post operative care.

Maternity Ward, Operating Theater

CBH strengthens healthcare systems by funding infrastructure projects to support essential services. Examples include funding a maternity ward and an operating theater. We are currently supporting infrastructure for the Rwibaale clinic as it transitions to becoming a hospital.

Primary and Secondary Education

Because education is a major determinant of health, we partner with the Sisters to support education by: 1) providing financial support to improve the infrastructure for local primary and secondary schools and 2) expanding teacher training through scholarships for Banyatereza Sisters.
